U.K. ecommerce solutions market grows 22%

It’s been estimated that the U.K. ecommerce solutions market will be worth around $800 million in 2007, up from $540 million in 2006.

E-consultancy’s “E-commerce Platforms Buyer’s Guide 2007” shows that the British e-commerce solutions market will continue to grow by 22 percent in 2007, the same growth rate as last year.

According to the report, the three major drivers of this growth are:

- New and re-launched websites by major retailers – many businesses, on seeing the success of others, are being inspired to move online. This includes small and medium enterprises, more and more of whom are moving sales online.

- Deeper understanding of the role of a marketing focus in e-commerce platforms instead of focusing on technology-driven aspects. Nearly three-quarters of U.K. businesses surveyed planned to increase their usability budgets in the next twelve months.

- Wider interest in social marketing has drawn many retailers online with recent surveys showing that over half of retailers thought it to be extremely or very important.
